Quinn talks about stopping violence at West Side church

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn attended the West Side church of one of Chicago's most prominent pastors to talk about ways to stop the violence.

He was invited to speak at Greater Saint John Bible Church, led by the Reverend Ira Acree.

Quinn says public officials need to address the violence problem and that after-school programs could help keep kids busy and safe.

"It's so important that we have programs after school where kids, if they don't have good things to do, often times get involved in bad things. We don't want that happening on the West Side or any side of Illinois," Quinn said.

Sunday's visit was not on Quinn's schedule, but he says Acree is a friend and that he had promised to stop by the church.
