Riverdale controversy over municipal credit cards

April 8, 2013 (RIVERDALE, Ill.)

Village trustee and mayoral candidate Lawrence Jackson says he released flyers alleging misuse of tax money based on what he says was unnecessary spending by elected officials.

Riverdale's village clerk says the flyers included the credit card numbers, thereby compromising the security of the accounts.

"According to the calls, it was all over the community," said Riverdale Village Clerk Deborah Smiley. "

"The board felt that the usage of these credit cards was being done in an irresponsible manner," said Lawrence Jackson, village trustee and mayoral candidate.

The village clerk says the cards have been deactivated.

No charges have been filed in the matter.
