Last year, the Chicago Park District and Mayor Emanuel named Northerly Island the new urban camping hub for families and youth. This June and August families are being invited back to Northerly Island to experience about 100 camping adventures. Families are invited to preview these camping events at the Family Adventure Day on June 1. The free outdoor event engages families in outdoor activities like tent building and camp set-up, hiking, fishing and more.

What to include in your camping backpack:
1. The North Face backpack, Casimir is a great lightweight pack
2. Sunscreen/hat for protection; TNF Shirt that blocks with UPS protection
3. Water bottle- if you're not sure 4 liters per person is a safe amount /snacks
4. Comfortable shoes – TNF shoes, hedgehog
5. Cell phone with camera to capture the fun
6. Emergency shell for rain or in case the weather cools down suddenly
7. The Young Explorers Guide, TNF exploration journal (kids to make observations, stickers, etc)
8. Trail map
9. Toys or Frisbee
