Firefighters began gathering at the building at 200 East Randolph at 7 a.m. and remained on the scene for a few hours. Approximately 180 firefighters to participated.
The drill, fire officials say, focuses on rescue and communication. Part of it includes a simulated fire on an upper floor of the high-rise building, complete with theatrical smoke.
No streets were closed as a result of the drill, but traffic aides will be in the area to keep things moving on the ground as the equipment and activity are sure to attract attention.
The drill ran for about two hours.
