Blackhawks help make up for strike-shortened season with playoffs

June 20, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Many lost money during the NHL lockout but they are making big bucks on the Hawks deep playoff run.

Blackhawks fans are everywhere these days. But at lunchtime you will find some of the most serious fans at the Palace Grill. Business is good there, helping make up for the strike shortened season.

The Stanley Cup run is a boon for many businesses near the United Center. On game nights, bars are full of screaming fans. Even bars that cater to the opposition are reaping the benefits.

Ticket brokers are also doing brisk business as well. Demand is up for Saturday's Game 5 at the united center.

Economists say the economic benefits of the hawks success are actually relatively minor in the big picture. But it feels good regardless.
