The 44-year-old police sergeant had a heart attack while he was riding his motorcycle near the intersection of LaGrange and Archer near southwest suburban Willow Springs Sunday evening. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the sergeant crashed while merging into traffic.

He was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just before 8 p.m.

A procession of police and civilian vehicles arrived at the Cook County Medical Examiner's office at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers saluted while an ambulance carrying the late sergeant's body came to a temporary stop outside the building's parking lot on West Harrison Street.

The officer's name was not being released early Monday, but ABC7 Chicago is told he was a 21-year veteran of the police force.
