Twice-weekly bridge lifts resume on Chicago River

The season for bridge lifts to accommodate boat traffic has arrived in Chicago.

Twenty-seven bridges on the main and south branches of the Chicago River will be affected.

From now until the middle of November they will be lifted every Wednesday and Saturday morning.

This happens in spring and fall so recreational boats can get to and from their storage yards.

A bridge lift takes 8 to 12 minutes.
