Cook County inmate walks away from work site, back in custody

September 28, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The sheriff's office says Vincent Tervel was cleaning cages at the city's Department of Animal Care and Control on Western Avenue when he walked away.

The 36-year old, who is accused of stealing bronze vases from a cemetery, was found a few hours later and returned to the jail.

The sheriff's office says they don't know how Tervel was able to walk, but an investigation is underway.
