Man shot, killed by Chicago police officer in Bridgeport

October 18, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The officers, who were responding to a domestic disturbance in a second-floor apartment near 33rd and Halsted around 1 a.m. Friday, say the found Felix Valdez standing over his girlfriend with two large butcher knives. Police say Valdez refused to drop the knives, and lunged at officers.

Authorities said that's when an officer shot and killed Valdez in self-defense. Rolando Valle, who lives in the building, called 911 when he heard the couple fighting.

"She started screaming call the police call the police and that scared me because I never heard her asking for police," Rollando Valle, who called 911, said. He said he heard four shots fired early Friday morning.

Valle said he has called police on the couple, who were being evicted, at least four times in the past hearing violent arguments.

The independent police review authority is looking into the shooting.

No one else was hurt, but two officers were taken to an area hospital just to be checked out.
