A battalion chief with the Carol Stream Fire Department has been suspended without pay for allegedly refusing orders from superiors.

Joseph Gilles could face a termination hearing next month over what the department calls insubordination.

An attorney for Gilles says he is being singled out for reporting a departmental paramedic as being negligent in responding to a call that ended in a fatality last year.
