Several Chicago families are starting the new year without a roof over their heads after a fire broke out in their North Side apartment building.

Residents say the fire started just after 12 a.m. Wednesday in the building at Sheridan and Howard.

The city of Chicago provided a bus to help the displaced families stay warm.

There were no reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
