UIC robbery suspect charged

Police say 23-year-old Darrine Luckett of the 8500 block of S. Sangamon St., was arrested Monday. Police were looking into at least two robberies near UIC over the past couple weeks.

On February 8 at about 10:45 a.m., a UIC student was the victim of a strong-arm robbery at on the 600 block of W. Roosevelt Rd., a university alert said. The victim was walking, carrying a laptop when a robber approached, pointed an object under his shirt at the victim and demanded the victim's laptop, the alert said. A fight ensued and the offender dropped a screwdriver from underneath his shirt, the alert said.

The victim reported the robber shoved him into the snow and began to punch him then fled the scene in a waiting vehicle described as a silver Chevy Tahoe. The victim was transported to the University of Illinois Hospital for treatment of a minor injury to his head, the UIC alert said.

A student was also attacked along the 1200-block of West Flournoy February 12. In that incident, two men knocked the victim down, taking a cell phone and student ID card before running off.
