The U.S. Attorney's office is investigating the death of a North Chicago man after he was allegedly beaten by police.

Darrin Hanna was arrested in November 2011 when police responded to a domestic violence call.

Relatives say police beat Hanna and used a stun gun on him. He died a week later. The Lake County Coroner eventually determined his death was a homicide.

The state's attorney referred the case to federal investigators. A spokesperson says the city supports that decision.
