In an update to an I-Team consumer investigation, there are new steps to protect your smartphone.

The non-profit organization which represents the wireless industry announces a "voluntary" commitment from most smartphone manufacturers, including Apple and Samsung.

Smartphones made after July 2015 will include a new "anti-theft" tool which could be preloaded or downloaded. The technology would allow consumers to wipe their phone or make it useless if stolen.

In February, Jason Knowles and the I-Team found that most stolen smartphones in the Chicago area were going to Hong Kong.
