CHICAGO (WLS) -- Fallen Chicago Police Officer Benjamin Perez honored with a memorial roll call.
On Monday, colleagues gathered on Benjamin Perez Street.
The four year veteran was hit by a train while investigating drug sales on September 18, 2002.
On that day, Perez and his partner were standing on an embankment near a railroad trestle in the 2100 block of South Spaulding when a Metra train approached. Though the officers tried to get out of the way, officials believe the draft from the train sucked Perez into the side of one of the cars.
In his four years with the Chicago Police Department he earned 16 honorable mentions.
