CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 22-year-old man has been charged in the Saturday morning shooting death of a man under CTA tracks in the Lakeview neighborhood, police said.
Kevin O'Malley, 25, of Palos Park, was shot twice in the chest at about 2 a.m. Saturday and pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The shooting may have stemmed from a robbery of a cell phone.
Kristopher K. Pitts, of Humboldt Park, is charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery, police said. Officials said Pitts fled the scene, but was apprehended shortly afterwards.
Pitts is scheduled to appear in bond court on Sunday.
The shooting occurred in an alley under the CTA tracks near the 900-block of West Oakdale Avenue, a street lined with restaurants and bars.
The CTA Diversey and Wellington train stations were shut down during the investigation Saturday morning.
Residents said their neighborhood is safe and they are now worried for their safety.
"I've lived in the building seven years," said Wayne Whitlock. "I've never felt anything but safe so this is pretty alarming."
