Chicago shootings: Tracking gun violence in 2024

A woman was shot Saturday night at a park on South Ellsworth Drive in Washington Park, Chicago police said.
CHICAGO (WLS) -- The city of Chicago continues to grapple with gun violence, which impacts hundreds of people every year. As of July 7, 2024, there have been almost 1,200 total reported shootings in the city, according to the Chicago Police Department.
"We cannot take our eyes off the ball," Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling said at a news conference following a violent July 4 holiday weekend. "We cannot stop thinking about the people who have been victimized by this crime."
While long holiday weekends often see a spike in gun violence, Chicago police and city officials are working to curb shootings and make the city safer.

2 shot, 1 critically after violent card game in West Woodlawn, Chicago police say
Two men were injured after a card game turned violent on the city's South Side, according to Chicago police.
The shooting happened around 1:22 a.m. in the 6500-block of Rhodes Avenue in the West Woodlawn neighborhood.
A group of men were playing a card game inside a home when an argument began, according to police.
A man, 40, was shot in the right thigh and right armpit. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

4 injured, 2 critically in Pill Hill shooting, Chicago police say
Four people were shot at a South Side party, according to Chicago police.
The shooting happened around 1:42 a.m. on Sunday in the 9500-block of Merrill Avenue in the Pill Hill neighborhood.
A man, 19, and a woman, 22, were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Two others were injured, but were expected to be okay.
No one is in custody. CPD Area One detectives are investigating.
