A female pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in the northern suburbs early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The body of Izah Malik, 26, was found in the 100-block of Golf Road in Morton Grove around 6:25 a.m., the Cook County sheriff's office said.

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Golf Road in unincorporated Morton Grove, police said.

That stretch of Golf Road, with a forest preserve on one side and a golf club on the other, was shut down for five hours as police investigated.

A witness who was driving west on Golf Road minutes before the crash told ABC7 that Malik was walking east on Golf. The witness said she was in the street, wearing dark clothing, acting erratically, dancing and talking on her cell phone.

Police said they were alerted by someone who found the body and called 911.

Malik's father told ABC7 he had dropped her off at a friend's house in the area. He also said she had been on the phone with a relative at the time of the crash, and the relative reported hearing a car honk just before she was struck.

An autopsy Wednesday found Malik died of multiple blunt force injuries and her death was ruled an accident.

The driver went to the Skokie Courthouse to report that she may have hit something on Golf Road, sheriff's spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said. She stopped at the scene, but because of poor lighting couldn't see anything on the roadway. She headed to the courthouse and notified the officers there that she may have hit something.

The investigation found that her vehicle had struck the victim, Ansari said. No charges have been filed.
