CHICAGO (WLS) -- Cashiers 18 to 20 years old may soon be able to ring up beer, wine or liquor purchases. The proposal is in front of the Chicago City Council.

The idea is to open more jobs to young adults and speed up checkout at stores.

They would also be allowed to sell and serve alcohol at restaurants but they would not be allowed to open or mix drinks.
