Mayor Daley speaks out about gun violence

At an environmental event at Navy Pier, Mayor Daley asked for a moment of silence to honor the victims of the NIU shootings. He says gun violence is an issue our government and its leaders cannot ignore.

"This is an issue that goes to human tragedy far too often. We hear about it every day. I think America is getting immune to it. It doesn't disturb us anymore. There is something wrong with our conscience--something wrong with our leadership," Daley said.

The mayor says Chicago police confiscate more guns than any other city in the country and that those weapons are destroyed so they stay off the streets.
