Yogurt may prevent gum disease

Japanese researchers found that eating yogurt and other drinks with lactic acid could help prevent gum disease. They looked at 900 people with the condition and tracked their dairy intakes.

Researchers found that people who consumed fewer lactic acid foods had more advanced gum disease. They suggest living microorganisms found in foods like yogurt may help prevent the condition. But they say more follow-up studies are needed to confirm their findings.

The study is published in the journal Periodontology.
