Drowning your sorrows in alcohol may not help forget your troubles. Instead, it could help you remember things more clearly. In a study published in the journal Neuro-Psychopharmacology, researchers conditioned rats to feel fear with mild shocks, which caused them to freeze up with terror. They found that rats injected with alcohol would freeze up for longer than rats that did not get alcohol.

Researchers say the results suggest that if you want to forget something, it is best to stay sober.
