Lake Co. flu cases quadruple

The flu usually peaks toward the end of winter.

This season has been especially bad because of a change in the virus, which decreased the flu vaccine's protection.

The Health Department is encouraging residents to prevent contracting or spreading the flu bug to others.

  • Stay home when you are sick with cough, fever, sore throat or other serious symptoms.
  • Get lots of rest, drink plenty of liquids and avoid alcohol and tobacco.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Clean your hands often.
  • Avoid close contact with vulnerable people, such as elderly people, pregnant women, infants and people with compromised immunity.
