August 6, 2009 --Cook County Assessor James Houlihan said he's going to keep pushing for property tax reform in his final 16 months in office. Houlihan announced on Thursday he would not run for re-election. He was appointed to the job 12 years ago and was elected three times.
Houlihan said he has fought to cut the tax burden on homeowners and change the way schools are funded. He also said that he is proud his office successfully expanded exemptions for homeowners and mom and pop businesses
