Weightlifting may benefit breast cancer survivors

August 12, 2009 For decades many doctors have warned that lifting weights or even heavy groceries could aggravate this condition. New research now shows weight training can actually help treat lymphedema.

The study from the University of Pennsylvania shows women who worked with weights actually had fewer arm problems.

Patients who lifted twice a week increased the strength and mobility of the affected limbs and they also lessened the pain.
