Festivals, fun during holiday weekend

September 4, 2009 (CHICAGO) Friday is the opening night for the Chicago jazz festival in Grant Park. This year, one of three stages is reserved for high school and college performers. The music starts at noon and plays on until 9:30 p.m. through this Sunday.

There's another beat on Chicago's South Side. It's the annual African Festival of the Arts at 51st and Cottage Grove. You can indulge in African food, crafts and music through Monday.

Get your fill of polish cuisine at the Taste of Polonia on the city's Northwest Side. The festival will serve up plenty of pierogi and polish sausage. That's at the Copernicus Center through Labor Day.

And say a slow goodbye to summer in Chicago's western suburbs. It's the first night of The Last Fling in downtown Naperville. Check out the carnival rides and live music through Monday evening.
