Illinois 42nd in U.S. health care rankings

That is according to a new report that finds states in the South, southeast and lower Midwest have worse insurance rates and less access to good medical treatment.

According to The Commonwealth Foundation, a private research group, residents in Vermont have the best healthcare in the country. Less than a decade ago the state decided to provide all citizens with healthcare.

The report also finds states that have made healthcare reforms provide better access to medical treatment and prevention.

Others in the top ranking included Hawaii, Iowa, Minnesota and Maine.

Illinois ranks 42nd among all the states.
