Little sleep may not cause obesity

Skimping on sleep may be unhealthy, but it does not appear to make people fat, according to a report is in this month's American Journal of Epidemiology. Chronic sleep deprivation has long been considered a risk factor for weight gain, but the new research involving more than 600 people did not find much of an association.

Researchers from the University of Chicago say more studies are needed.

One area they would like to better explore is the type of sleep people are getting and whether it is influenced by body mass index, or vice versa.
