November 28, 2009 (CHICAGO) --Hearings on the possible sale of a prison in northwestern Illinois to the federal government could start by the end of next month. The Thomson Correctional Center is one location being considered as the Obama administration looks to close the military-run detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and relocate terror detainees.
This week, Governor Quinn's administration filed its recommendation for closing Thomson.
State Senator Jeff Schoenberg of Evanston co-chairs a panel that reviews state-facility closings. He wants to begin the hearings by the end of December.
