December 6, 2009 --
The Obama administration indicates that terrorism suspects now held at the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba will probably be moved to a prison in Illinois. The site would be the Thomson Correctional Center located about 150 miles west of Chicago, near the Mississippi River.
White House, defense, and prison officials made the disclosure while briefing the Illinois congressional delegation.
The plan is for federal authorities to buy the nearly vacant, one-year-old prison by late winter.
It's security would then be tightened to a level beyond 'supermax.'
