The midsize sedan took the top honor at the Detroit auto show Monday.
The annual honor is based on a vehicle's innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value.
It was a double honor for Ford. The Transit Connect compact van won truck of the year.
It's only the third time in 17 years that one automaker has won both awards.
