January 29, 2010 (CHICAGO) --A statue that became the focus of a fight between a South Side university and a state lawmaker is back with its rightful owner.Chicago representative Monique Davis returned the 'Defiance' statue to Chicago State University Friday.
The university paid $25,000 in 2004 for the statue of an African slave woman. It ended up in a warehouse, then in Davis's office.
Davis claims she was protecting the statue.
Chicago State will now display "defiance" in the university library.
