Girl rescued from under car in Kenosha

May 3, 2010 (KENOSHA, Wis.)

Makaia Curi was riding her tricycle near her home when two cars collided nearby. One of those cars jumped up onto the sidewalk and hit Curi and her grandfather, 60-year-old Brent McCullough. Curi became pinned underneath the vehicle.

Neighbors tried to lift the car off of Curi, who was trapped underneath. She was freed after firefighters arrived.

Both Curi and McCullough were airlifted to a hospital in Milwaukee.

Curi was in critical condition Monday morning. McCullough was in serious condition.

"The initial report was that the child was actually pinned under the vehicle," said Matthew Haerter of the Kenosha Fire Department. "Their tricycle is completely unmovable due to being pinned down by the weight of the car itself."

No charges have been filed against the driver who caused the crash.
