Wilfredo de Jesus pulls out of Chicago mayoral race

January 7, 2011 (CHICAGO)

De Jesus, the pastor of New Life Covenant Church in Humboldt Park, claimed that Chicago's education system is in shamble, and poverty is rising.

He said the city is at a crossroads.

"It is for this reason that I wholeheartedly support Gery Chico in his bid to become the next mayor of the City of Chicago," de Jesus said.

"I intend to be partnering with Reverend de Jesus and people in the faith-based community to make better lives for people throughout the city," Gery Chico said.

Nine candidates remain in the race to succeed Mayor Daley, who is retiring.
