Dog finds opium shipment from Laos at O'Hare

February 9, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Wicker baskets from Laos arrived at O'Hare headed for Minneapolis and St. Paul on Monday.

A dog named Allen who works with customs agents alerted agents to the packages. When the baskets were cut open, officers found a black, tar-like substance wrapped in plastic. It tested positive for opiates.

In all, 13 baskets containing 8.75 pounds were found.

The shippers and the recipients are both under investigation.
