Psychologist contends young kids need more down time

Psychologist Mark Crawford contends young children need more down time.

And whether it's exercising, playing with other kids or just spending time on their own, little ones need as much of it as possible.

Crawford doesn't deny the importance of structured activities.

"Really, the goal is to give them a sample," said Crawford. "Is this something you may have an interest in so that later on they'll take that on for themselves?"

Crawford says structured activities may help bring out children's talents. But he cautions parents against overscheduling.
