Federal tax returns due Monday at midnight

April 17, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Keep this is mind as you fill out the forms:
  • U.S. tax laws are filled with a total of $1.1 trillion in deductions, credits and exemptions. That's an average of about $8,000 per taxpayer.
  • Your returns are due at midnight Monday.
  • The filing deadline was delayed three days because the district of Columbia observed Emancipation Day last Friday -- that's the day President Abraham Lincoln signed a law ending slavery in the District of Columbia.
