ADHD medications may raise blood pressure

A new study shows that medicines used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can raise blood pressure and heart rates.

However, it found that children who take medications such as Adderall and Ritalin are no more likely to die from severe heart problems than those who don't take the medications.

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of medicine and healthcare performed the study.

Scientists also say if a child is responding well to the medicine the benefit of the drug outweighs the risk of heart problems.

It's important to note the study was funded by Shire, the drug maker that manufacturers ADHD medications, including Adderall.
