Police: Landscaper shot to death on Southwest Side

May 20, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The shooting happened shortly before 2 p.m. Friday in the 6400-block of South Talman Avenue. Police gathered evidence and talked to witnesses as well as co-workers who gathered at the scene.

According to witnesses who did not want to speak to ABC7 on camera, a landscaper who works for a company called Tandem Landscaping was working in the backyard when he was approached and shot by multiple individuals, as many as three or four. Police say it appears that robbery may have been the motive.

Witnesses say that after the victim was shot, he was able to walk to the front yard from the backyard before collapsing. Officials with the Chicago Fire Department say the victim was then taken by ambulance to Stroger Hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses only have a vague description of the multiple suspects that police are seeking.

No arrests have been made but the investigation continues.
