Stay hydrated over Fourth of July

The fourth of July can mean food, family and outdoor fun. But there are several common reasons people end up in the emergency room after holiday celebrations go wrong.

Whether at home or traveling, don't let a trip to the emergency room spoil a holiday. ER physicians say they see an increase in patients who suffer from dehydration. They suggest drinking plenty of water and limiting alcohol and caffeine.

Food borne illness is another culprit -- wash your hands often when preparing your meal. Also refrigerate leftovers right within an hour to keep bacteria from growing.

And, overheating from too much sun is a real threat. So wear light, loose-fitting clothing, a wide-brim hat, sunglasses and sun block.
