Dalai Lama in Chicago, discusses religious divide

July 17, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The title of his talk was "Bridging the Faith Divide." Religious symbols representing all faiths were on display meant to reflect the theme.

The 76-year-old spiritual leader emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions, and discussed the commonalities among all the world's religions.

"In spite of different philosophies, all have same message, so same potential, and different philosophy is necessary, because among the people there are so many different dispositions, therefore it is necessary, a different way of approach," he said.

On Monday morning, he will join several other religious leaders as part of a panel discussion entitled "Building Bridges: Religious Leaders in Conversation with the Dalai Lama," which will be held at the Harris Theatre.
