Swimming ban lifted at all but one Chicago beach

July 24, 2011 (CHICAGO)

A ban was in effect early Sunday and on Saturday. The only beach still affected by the swim ban is South Shore. There are also swim advisories at 57th Street, 12th Street, and Osterman/Hollywood beaches.

Due to the heavy rains, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District opened locks in Wilmette and on the Chicago River downtown. When that happens, a swim ban goes into effect at all beaches until test results show low levels of bacteria in the water.
