A 15-year-old male was charged with the murder of an off-duty Chicago police officer late Saturday.

Hester Scott, 55, was found Friday in a sewer trap behind her home in the 8800-block of South Wallace. She was a 25-year Chicago police veteran.

On Friday, police were questioning Scott's 15-year-old grandson in connection with her death but they will not confirm if her grandson is the one charged in the crime.

Scott's family say she was so attached to her grandchildren that when their mother was unable to care for them several years ago, she fought a lengthy court battle to adopt them. A source told ABC7, however, that Scott was recently put on desk duty at the department after her 15-year-old grandson accused her of pointing a gun at him. The source added that she was apparently in the process of trying to get him removed from her home.

The 15-year-old murder suspect will appear in court Monday.
