An attempted carjacking ended in a crash on Chicago's West Side early Friday, police said.

It started in the 4400 block of West Gladys when a couple tried to flee a man who demanded their vehicle, police said.

As the couple drove away, police said the man fired several shots, shattering the window of their SUV. The driver, believing he had been shot, started heading to the hospital but on the way lost control of his car.

He hit a moving van and two parked cars at Harrison and Lockwood. The driver and passenger were taken to hospitals in unknown condition. The driver of the van that was hit was hospitalized as well.
