Where's winter? Temperatures in the 50s

January 6, 2012 (GLEN ELLYN, Ill.)

Looking at the fairway at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn, one might think it is the middle of fall or spring-- not the first week of January.

It wasn't hard to find Chicagoland's diehard golf fans spending Friday afternoon playing nine holes.

"It's amazing to play golf in January in the Chicagoland area," said golfer Ed O'Connor.

In fact, the golf course has been busy all day, thanks to warmer than normal temps.

Just a short distance away at the Morton Arboretum, it was a similar scene--packed with families out for a beautiful stroll.

This nice weather may not be ideal for the arboretum's cross country skiing events, but it is sure helping in other ways.

"We're having a lot of people visit us," said Sharon Yiesla-Plant, clinic assistant at Morton Arboretum.

Even the little ones are enjoying every last minute of the warmth.

"You don't have to wear your jackets. You can leave your jackets off," said one youngster.
