Army Sgt. William McKinney watched as his Plainfield neighborhood filled with people wanting to thank him for his service.
McKinney returned just before Christmas, but his family wanted to give him time to settle back in before Sunday's event.
In September, McKinney stepped on an IED and lost part of his left leg and suffered injuries to his right leg and left hand.
McKinney joined the army right after graduating from Plainfield Central High School in 2007.
