Bill would protect job seekers' online privacy

April 30, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The bill comes in response to reports of employers requesting Facebook passwords from job candidates.

Representative Schakowski calls the Social Networking Online Protection Act a privacy safeguard.

"This is just above and beyond," she said. "I think most people feel those things should not be open to their employers or potential employers."

The bill would allow students to likewise withhold their passwords from college administrators.
