For people suffering from depression, finding the right drug treatment is a matter of trial and error. But now, British scientists say they have identified biological markers in the blood which should help doctors match patients to the best type of treatment.

It involves a "blood based" test that could personalize treatment of depression based on patients with high inflammation levels. They say that can lead to depression.

Scientists say patients with high levels could immediately begin with a more intensive treatment program such as combining antidepressants or stepping up the doses.
