There is no doubt airline travel is safer than ever before. But for people with nut allergies, a routine flight can end in disaster.

An international online survey completed by 3,200 passengers finds 349 had suffered an allergic reaction during an airline flight.

The study in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology suggests passengers should take certain precautions.

Precautions include requesting peanut-free meals beforehand, avoiding airline pillows and blankets, and sanitizing your area, including the tray table.
