Chicago police have discovered a stash of stolen semi trailers as well as a boat at a South Side scrap yard.

A search warrant executed at Englewood Used Auto Parts in the 600-block of West 59th Street revealed parts of at least five trailers and a 30-foot boat, all of which had previously been reported stolen.

"People are stealing vehicles for the value of the scrap metal, and not necessarily for the value of the vehicle," said Chicago Police Commander Eugene Roy.

Police say they arrested a man Thursday trying to take a stolen trailer to the yard.

Stolen trailers can carry a street value of $250 per ton of recycled metal.
